Finding Our Way Back
The only certainty about this world is the uncertainty of things. At this very time of my life, I am having a self-realization about how uncertain things are. Eventually, everything will change, your surroundings, the people you associate with. There is a chance that your whole belief system might change, you will start to look at things differently. It is nothing to fear, you just need to sit down, clear your mind and re-think. You might realize that the universe is trying to show you another path. Feeling lost will not harm you unless you do not understand what is going on with you.
The most recent example about me which I can talk about is my loss of passion for drawing. Those who know me knows that I like to draw. I am not at all an artist; I just drew as a coping mechanism. It helped me stay calm. Last year was a tough year for me, it tested me in many ways, and it was one of the most painful years for me. This was my way of letting that pain out. I was unable to speak about how I felt, therefore I drew. I drew one drawing a day for over 200 days. Later last year, I realized that I am losing my passion for drawing. I was confused and I was sad cos I was not drawing more often. Very recently I was self-reflecting about this situation, and I realized that my reason for drawing is not there anymore. The pain which I carried with me is no longer there. It has passed, and along with that my passion for drawing passed.
I thought that drawing made me unique and when I started losing the passion, I felt lost. I thought I was losing who I am and I spent days anxious about not being able to draw like I used to. Later I realized that it was just a coping mechanism. I still love drawing, but I now do it with a more relaxing mindset. Realization of the above situation made me re-think who I am, what my values are, and what characteristics I have lost during those hard times.
Just like this, you must have felt the same about life, especially with this miss managed pandemic situation. If you are feeling the same, there are few things which you can do that will help you find some meaning.
- Do a check-up about the people
who are around you. There might be few toxic people around you who bring
some negative energy. Who give advice which doesn't match you. You never have to feel guilty for letting some toxic
people go.
- Move your body. Go for a walk, engage with nature. Nature is the best healer we have. It has a strange way of connecting with us and healing us. Going for a walk while admiring the nature brings us benefits. When you see a tree always think ' I am breathing what this tree is exhaling and this tree is breathing what I am exhaling', this help us connect to nature more.
- Write down your reasons, your feelings and what ever which comes to your head. Dig deep, try to understand why you are feeling the way you are feeling. Journaling will help you to sort out your thoughts and bring in some new perspectives.
- Disconnect from social media. We are all highly engaged in social media. We lose track of our path when we give focus to what other people are doing. This is exactly what social media does to us. It makes us re-think our path. Why am I not this successfully, how come they get to enjoy life like that, and I do not, how come she has a great partner and I do not. These are the question we all get when we engage in social media too much. Social media only shows what you need to see, it does not focus on the hard work with goes behind. We need to realize that social media does not always show the reality of things.
- Meditate. Meditation is one of the key methods of getting your focus back. The good thing about meditation is that you can do it any time of the day. Be aware of your thoughts and your actions. You can start by meditating for 10 minutes in the morning or before bed. Sit down in a relaxed position, close your eyes and start observing your thoughts. Your mind will wander and you should let it. There comes a time where you become aware of your mind’s behavior. I will put in some guided meditation links below to help you start with meditation.
